If your municipality’s tap water doesn’t include fluoride, your dentist may also recommend in-office fluoride treatments for added protection.

Dry mouth can cause discomfort, but there are ways to manage it. Try a moisturizing mouthwash, chew sugar-free gum, or use artificial saliva, which mimics real saliva. Consult your doctor or dentist if medication is the cause; he or she can adjust your dosage or suggest alternatives.

If you wear dentures, clean them daily using a non-abrasive denture cleaner. Brush your gums and tongue with a soft toothbrush to remove food and bacteria.
